About Congress
Climate changes have eventually started posing a major threat to the development of Punjab and never before its consequences were as seriously felt as of now. The elevated temperature, delayed or missing monsoon, depleting ground water levels, drought and intensifying water and air contamination have virtually affected every individual in one or the other way. Consequently, the impact has severely altered the environment for agriculture, availability of food supply, price index, power supply, urban and rural economy and ultimately the health and socio-economic status of the people. As a result, there has been an alarming increase in stress-related disorders, debt-related suicides, as well as in other crippling diseases including cardio-vascular and cancer. The progress of the State has been halted and needs serious deliberations for its rejuvenation. The proposed conference would dwell upon such related issues, discuss the strategies and suggest remedial measures for the future.
